In the last update I reviewed a SleepwalkR Q2 map, and that map really nabbed my attention, so I decided to check out some more of his work. This here is Return To Zero, a Q1 map of his, and just look at those screen shots on the right. I don’t think I even need to say that this map just looks absolutely stunning. Sleep has created some incredibly sexy curves here, and they’ll nab your attention all too often when you’re fragging. The lighting in the level is quite moody and casts some pretty eye-catching shadows. The use of narrow bridges just above shallow water helps cut back on the extreme LG advantage. You’ll fall down into the water quite a bit, and in one of the pool’s you just might find something special (hint hint).
The fragging action flows extremely smoothly with lots of vertical and horizontal fighting throughout the entire map. You’ll find quite a bit of armor and health, but like I said earlier, you might find yourself getting fried in the pools quite a bit, so it balances out pretty well. My only gripe on the item placement is that its extremely easy to grab the quad, and then hit a portal that’ll drop you right in front of the MH. All of the items are relatively easy to grab, but if you have some rocket jumping skills then you’ll have a bit of an advantage on the RA. You’ll find all your favorite weapons in here, minus the double barreled shotty, although you may not find the GL. I accidentally found it when I was sent flying by a rocket into a small pool. It’s actually sitting under water, which confused me. I would have expected the GL to be up top somewhere, but it’s on the bottom floor.
The zip I downloaded didn’t include a readme, so I’m not sure if this map was released before or after Pain Elemental. If it was after Pain, then Sleep definitely has learned a few tricks with game flow. If you’re looking for a kick ass frag fest, then you need to start that download, now!
