If you have ever wanted to play Quake in Tomb Raider type levels then this is the file for you. Arabian Nights is a great 3 map level pack that features some great architecture and new textures.

The pack begins pretty easy. The only reason you might have some troubles is if you are paying to much attention to the design of the level. For example, at the first corner in the map I was being distracted by one of the paintings on the wall when an Ogre popped a grenade at me. Defiantly a nice distraction by the author. As you progress into the second and third levels the difficulty increases, bringing in more Vores and Fiends that aren’t present in the first map. So when your blasting your way through the first level keep in mind that you will need this ammo for later.

As you travel along the map you’ll have no choice but notice the detail that was put forth here. Look in the corners of rooms and see the piles of sand that has leaked into the room from broken ceilings and in the outside areas you can see windswept piles as well. I especially liked the tomb room on the first map, nicely done.

Even though there aren’t any secrets, some items will take some searching. This is an interesting touch that most map authors wouldn’t have the nerve to try. The pack definitely gives the sense of exploration but remains constantly on the same track. There are no shortcuts or parallel routes.

Overall, Arabian Nights offers a great challenge and looks good doing it. There are some areas in the second map where the sandstone textures begin to blend together and look a little plain but this is such a minor issue that it in no way does it effect the quality of the maps. Recommended.
