Iikka’s third single player map continues the tradition started in ikspq2, this level being a large, very curvy blue map, done in his great ikblue set and it seems that Iikka just keeps on getting better. This map continues from where ikspq2 left off, so play that first.

Architecture is, as stated before, very curvy, which is nice. Ceiling arches, a large circular pit, and buttressed curves are on display on this map. It all looks very nice, with the predominantly dark blue brick, with light blue trim. Blue lights placed at various locations keep things interesting. The overall coherence displayed in Ikka’s blue maps in unparalleled, architecturally, everything flows on a level that few maps can compare to.

Layout is also good, this level being more 3-D than his previous efforts. This level wraps around itself nicely, and you are never far from you next objective. Progression is achieved via the usual silver key and buttons, nothing revolutionary, but it’s functional. One thing I did like was a bridge over lava that retracts when you try to run back across it. This is very inconvenient giving the situation.

Game play is good, harder than his previous efforts. Knights, fiends and shambler give you trouble at floor level, while scrags, ogres and death knights give you grief from above. This is Ikka’s hardest to date, seeing as he has improved with monster placement, and has put in a lot of teleporting monsters that catch you by surprise. Although there was no shambler god, there were plenty of shamblers around. Health and ammo are adequate, as always, you shouldn’t have much trouble getting through. The ending is easy, but it’s interesting, using a very large number of a weak monster.

Very beautiful map, with good game play No reason to pass it up.
