There are two versions of this map by Maric, one for regular DM, and one for the Awakening mod. I personally chose to play the regular DM map so that’s what I’m giving you the nitty gritty on. Now I’ve only played a few of Maric’s maps so I can’t give you a whole lot of background information on the mapper, but he’s obviously been at it for awhile. No Blue Things shows that Maric has definitely been at mapping for awhile. From running around the map for quite awhile, inspect nook and crannies, I didn’t find any noticeable errors anywhere.

Since the almighty Zoop’s got a phat pipe to play on, I had the opportunity to actually put this map through serious game play testing. Zoop ran a server and DorKwolf and I hopped on in for the fragging action. Somehow, don’t ask how, Zoop actually managed to pull a victory from his ass in No Blue Things, but that’s not the point. The point is, that this map proves for some fast and furious action. You’re never wandering around looking for a gun, there’s always one right nearby. Along with that, there’s not a lot of places to hide. You have multiple tiers to climb and fire down from, which makes for some amazing vertical combat along with the combat in the tight hallways. All of the weapons are included in the map, even the BFG, but good luck finding it. I actually found it on accident by catching a rocket in the rear! Along with that armor and health are spread out evenly across the whole map, and the combat armor requires a rocket jump to nab, at least from what I could tell. I tried strafe jumping to it, but maybe I’m just lame. The mega health is easily accessible on the bottom floor of the map, but watch out for Death From Above™. The quad you’ll need to rocket jump to, but at least you’re not too overly visible when you’re going for it.

Now for the look of No Blue Things… Oddly enough it has quite a bit of blue trim and such in the map, but it looks amazing. Weapons are placed on blue pads, with a few blue jump pads out and about. You don’t really get to appreciate the other textures too much due to the map is a wee bit on the dark side, at least on my machine. As far as the architecture, its nothing you haven’t seen before, but on the other hand it fits the map perfect. I’m kind of at a loss for words trying to describe the map, so just look at the screen shots you see for a good taste.

Overall No Blue Things gets my stamp of approval, and is a definite must have in your server rotation. It provides fast and furious death matching greatness that we all know and love. I’m still totally digging this map, do yourself a favor and just grab it.
