Gabe Newell
Bravely going where no TF Newsie has gone before... Poking at the gray matter of the community is definitely not a thing for the light hearted!

I'm with PlanetFortress and I wanted to do a *pseudo* interview with you over the e-mail if you don't mind. Here are a couple questions on the General TFC and TF2:

[PlanetFortress] Will there be any more patches released after 1.5?
[Gabe Newell] Yes. We will continue to be releasing new technology, games, and content.

[PlanetFortress] In TF2, would vehicle moving create any more lag in the game?
[Gabe Newell] No.

[PlanetFortress] Will the commander function give a the gamer a RTS type view over the battle field?
[Gabe Newell] Yes.

[PlanetFortress] How many people will there be on a team who can issue orders?
[Gabe Newell] There is one commander per team, although there will be officers as well on a team.

[PlanetFortress] Just to suit the public, although we all know the answer - "When will TF2 be released?"
[Gabe Newell] I don't know.

[PlanetFortress] How many maps will there be with TF2?
[Gabe Newell] A bunch.

[PlanetFortress] When will you be releasing the source code (after the release of the game, or with the game) for the production of MODs?
[Gabe Newell] Actually we will be releasing TF 2 technology prior to TF 2's retail release (see the TF 1.5 netcode and V-GUI, for example).

[PlanetFortress] How long has it really been since the team at Valve started the TF2 project?
[Gabe Newell] Wow. Since before Half-Life shipped, actually.

[PlanetFortress] Using the new netcode - by how much will it improve a players ping?
[Gabe Newell] Ping is a pretty bad way of measuring netcode. The better measure of netcode is how well does it play for a given ping. That said, the latency is better with the new netcode, and for a given latency the net code is "a lot" better. What is "a lot?" I'd refer you to CliffE's and Minh's comments about the netcode. We think it's the best available at this point. [Take a look at cliffe's comments here. - Slick]

Thank you very much Gabe - we appreciate your time a lot around here =)
