TF2 Question
- kanemcn
i wanted to know if tf2 will support modem connection between two local computer like dial-up unlike half-life. If you know will you e-mail me and if you don't ask the guys at valve next time you get a chance to!
Slick: Currently there is no planned support for a dual dialup created by Valve for TF2. There is however a way to do it in Half-Life, I've seen tutorials on it. I'll look for it and hopefully will have it for next weeks mailbag (and I'll also email you with the url/information on how to do it).

Canyou help me...
- GrandmasterMogum
I was wondering if you can teach me how to bind keys for TFC, I would appreciate it if you taught me or linked me to a site that could teach me,thank you very much.
Slick: It's quite simple actually, just pull down the console (with the "~" key) and type:

bind x "+attack"

"x" being whatever key you want to bind, and "+attack" being whatever command you want that key to do.

A great config with complete details on how to operate it (and some kick-ass TFC scripts) is available at The Grassy Knoll, a now archived TF Sniper Site.

Installing TFC
- Donald Konski
hi i just reinstalled half-life and i havent done that for a long time i forgot how to install tfc...I played it before i reinstalled it.Do i have to download it?

Please help me
Slick: The A-Team has arrived my friend! Fear not, for installing TFC is a snap thanks to Sierra's handy dandy patch installer! -- You can use the auto update feature that comes with Half-Life, or just grab the latest patch off our Files Page. All you have to do is upgrade to the latest patch and your set!

Hi I want to ask slick about this--------I have been talking to valve about testing for a while now and no one sends me a e-mail back I dont no if this is just me or if their is noone their I tested lots of games and did good but I at least got a e-mail back if this happens for everyone....
Slick: *shuts off aol alert alarm for the 15th time today* Valve is pretty precise in picking who they want to beta test. Bugging them with multiple e-mails will not get you anywhere if you don't have anything special to offer. Thousands of people want to beta test, you just have to be in the right hangouts at the right time to get in on a couple, or have direct connections with Valve to do so.

TF2... a look at the past..
- craz
I was looking at the "official" TF2 webpage, and the bottom news post reads:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------
[December 18, 1998] - I Want My TF T II

Well folks, Team Fortress T 2 will be here shortly and community sites are popping up all over the web. Clans are starting to form, Tournaments are being planned, and information pages are being posted. If you haven't checked out the sites yet, be sure to visit our links section or visit PlanetFortress.com for more information.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------

is it just me or is that long overdue? They said in december '98 thatd it'd be here shortly... well valve incase you forgot, YOU SILL HAVNET RELEASED IT!
Slick: Close, but no cigar :) This post was made when TF2 was going to be a free add on mod for Quake2 (just like it was done for Quake) But then TFS was acquired by Valve, and TF2 was going to be an add-on pack for Half-Life. Now TF2 has moved to become a complete game, and meanwhile TFC was released to help Valve create a better SDK for Half-Life.

A little more on the note you posted about, a while back I passed a joke a Robin with a similar news post:

*grin*
When I was porting the TF birthday mode over to TFC, I noticed one of the random birthday messages was: "TF II Coming in 1998!"... needless to say, I removed it ;)

Subject: It gave me a chuckle..

I was browsing around TF1's homepage when I saw this under the news

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
29.1.1998

TeamFortress II

Yes, we are still working on TF II for Quake2. We still have no set release date.

I couldn't help but smile and let out a little chuckle, and I thought you might find it amusing too. ;)

UTF?
- Si-Man
As a regular reader at PF I would appreciate any new on the forthcoming UTF Mod (and any other platforms) as since the 1.5 version of TFC has completely F**KED the game up and made it unplayable (I cannot even access 90% of servers) I am desperately looking for an alternative. Either that or can you point me in the direction of any UK servers that have reverted back to 1.0.1.6 as it is more stable.

P.S Just becuase I am not in a clan, doesn't mean I cant frag Arse.
Slick: Were looking to get a high quality hosted site to cover UTF news at PlanetFortress (the site would of course cover strats and such as well to better provide information specific to UTF only way better than PF could hope to).

As an example, Lich and the team from The Catacombs Q3F will soon move to become PlanetFortress' place to go for complete Q3F information and latest news. -- I hope to have something similar with UTF coverage in the near future.

CLAN
- cowboyj
YES I WHOLD LIKE TO START A CLAN HOW WHOULD I GO ABOUT THAT ???? ANY INFO WHOULD BE THANKFULL
Slick: A few simple steps should take care of this:

  • 1st: You need to take your caps-lock off. It would insinuate to some people that you are less than of the average intelligence to improperly use uppercase in text and therefore cause you to be ignored.
  • 2nd: Learning how to spell "would" might prove advantageous. Or in your case it might be better to use synonyms to avoid using the word would.
  • 3rd: Proper grammar and punctuation is needed. When first reading your hastily written message, I wasn't sure if the info "whould" be "thankfull" for my information or if you "whould" be the one who wanted it. I'm taking the guess that you would appreciate the information, as information itself has never thanked me (maybe it's more of a personal vendetta I have with information, either way, you win).
  • 4th: It's obvious that you have "l33t" skills and "r0x0r" at TF. Your skills alone should get you into any clan without effort. Hell, with your skills you could take on an entire clan and defeat them with just yourself because you don't need teammates and have never used them to help you cap on your aol based server.
  • 5th: You need to be well organized to put together clan matches with other clans, setup a webpage/irc chatroom or some comparable way to communicate with your clan (note: large ICQ chats will not suffice)

When you've finished with those, email me again and well discuss "collecting team members" and "dealing with loosing."

  • GREN TIMER
    - Arbon
i was wondering if you know where i can download a grenade timer for team fortress (original) coz ive looked everywhere and cant find one.
Slick: I've been looking on GameSpyder and cannot find one for TeamFortress (I have one installed on my other computer, and I would email that to you, but it's disconnected from the network at the moment :( If anyone can locate a TF Gren timer, please email me.

    Crosshairs
    - WorldCUSA@aol.com
I know that planethalflife has crosshairs to download but I would like to make my own ... How can I do that? Thx.
Slick: This Link has you covered.

    Tams
    - The_CLeaner
Scottish tams or if you add orange hair "see you jimmy hats" rock this world. Just so's you know.

I'll try ind send you a "see you jimmy hat" if you post a pic of one as potd :))).
Slick: My dad got me hooked on wearing Tams. Quite simply, they kick ass as a cool hat (especially for those of us lucky enough to have sideburns that look good (not that woolly mammoth crap). If you send me a pic of some tams, I'll do a little editing and put myself next to it (wearing a tam) in the potd.

    Death Notices Download
    - The Dark One-TPF-
First of all, I think it's fair to say that your site OWNS. I was wondering if you could help me out on something. Recently, my annoyingly crappy PC crashed on me while playing TF, and I lost some file that was sorely missed. I had to re-install half-life, and upgrade it. The problem is that I had gotten this program that shows much better death notices in the top right corner. I remember seeing it in your news, and going to download it. The problem: I can't find it again. (A combination of weeks if news info, and I own lazyness)I tried searching for it, and looking in th news arcgives, but to no avail. Please tell me if you know what i'm talking about, and hopefully where to get it back. Thanks.
Slick: I'm working with Dark One to find this right now, (I've actually never heard about it) if anyone can lend a hand in finding it, please email me.

    Thanks.

    My wish
    - TeCH
TFC should have something like NGworldstats, the feature that ships with Unreal Tournament and gives detailed statistics about a player's gameplay. I admit it...I'm a stats freak, I check my TFC stats everyday at http://www.theclq.com, but it aint half as good as worldstats. So Valve, or any other software developer: plz do something about it.

due to my poor performance this week with TFC, I wish to stay anonymous LOL
Slick: Well, I think it actually might be possible to make a mod that would appropriately record stats. Especially that Valve is now going to release that memory capability to move from server to server and retain stats. There my be hope for you yet!

    ? 4 U
    - Dethaddict
How the heck does that spy trick work? The one where you dissapear into the floor or wall when you feign. Please don't post this on the event it will make me look like a dumbass if the answer is obvious.
Slick: You sir, are an idot. -- Do you know about those idot's guide to _______________? ...they are made for you. Why would I tell you how to do this when you have no reason to want to know other than to take advantage of it. Really, do I look like an idot myself here?

Well, that's all I have the energy for this week folks. There are a couple more (specifically patch complaints) that I'll look into for next week. One is thought out, and deserves to be responded to as such, a mindset that I'm just not capable of right now after the Clan question and how to cheat one. :)

Comments about this weeks mailbag, complaints or anything of the like can be sent to this email. Remember, your mails keeps this feature of PlanetFortress going.

    ~ Slick
