ikbase.wad re-visited
ikbase.wad is a remarkable texture wad for Quake I. You will find ikbase.pk3 in:
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jimw/ClassicFPS/Darkplaces/Texturing/
ikbase.pk3 is a nearly complete set of TGA images and Normal images for use with the darkplaces engine. Any map that uses the ikbase.wad will show an improvement in textures. I do not have time to finish some walls, doors and three grates, so I upload ikbase.pk3 as is.

The best base map I've ever played. I'm not the biggest fan of base maps, I think there's only so much you can do with grunts, enforcers and doges, but the combat in this map is amazingly fun, not to mention the visuals are amazing. I don't know what caused the first lift to let me up, though. Excellent map, play it!
Enjoyable, but comments about "the best base map ever" suggest that JellyGal hasn't played Insomnia, not to mention some of the absurdly brilliant recent base maps (see especially the Rubicon Rumble Pack!)
I think this may have been the first appearance of this map's texture set? If so, then that is another truly remarkable achievement, especially coming so soon after the ikblue textures.
MikeTaylor,
At that point I had not played many base maps I consider to be better (Insomnia, Rubicon series, Slave to a Machine, Concentric Devastation etc). If you look at the comments on CZG's Research Facility, you'll see that there was a time when I though that was the best base map, too... :P
Nice map, good-looking textures. The lack of monster variety really holds it back though. Iikka did an admirable job of trying to shake things up with the gameplay and progression but this is begging for a Quoth remake or something.
...Or better yet, an AD remake. After having played Iikka's previous maps very cautiously, this one was a walk in the park and could've used some drones and advanced enforcers. It feels weird to arrive to a base after one medieval and 3 temple maps, and the weaker base enemies certainly don't help. It would have been better as the beginning of a new episode instead of a "next level". Secrets were harder this time around, though, and I couldn't figure out how to access the yellow armor in the starting elevator shaft. If anyone knows, please share.
All in all, a very nice base map with some cool set pieces - the devastated warehouse springs to mind. A shame Iikka stopped mapping for Quake, I would have liked at least an entire episode from him.
In order to get the secret yellow armor you need to shoot a hidden button on a computer control panel across from the elevator shaft and it's the right-most one. Then afterwards the elevator shaft will go downwards and you can ride on top of it until it goes to the bottom then you get the armor!
